Language Patterns

Bargaining: 平啲得唔得？

To ask for a discount, use 平啲得唔得 (peng4 di1 dak1 m4 dak1) meaning can it be cheaper? The 啲 makes it a bit cheaper.
平啲得唔得呀？
peng4 di1 dak1 m4 dak1 aa3?
Can you make it cheaper?
買兩件平啲啦。
maai5 loeng5 gin6 peng4 di1 laa1.
Make it cheaper if I buy two.

Comparative 啲: adjective + 啲

Add 啲 (di1) after an adjective for the comparative form, like English -er. Works with any adjective.
大啲
daai6 di1
a bit bigger
有冇平啲嘅？
jau5 mou5 peng4 di1 ge3?
Do you have a cheaper one?

Too + adjective: 太 + adj + 喇

Use 太 (taai3) before an adjective and 喇 (laa3) at the end to express too much of something.
太貴喇！
taai3 gwai3 laa3!
Too expensive!
太細喇，有冇大碼？
taai3 sai3 laa3, jau5 mou5 daai6 maa5?
Too small, do you have large?

Asking about colours and sizes

Use 咩色 (me1 sik1) for what colour and 咩碼 (me1 maa5) for what size. Sizes: 大碼, 中碼, 細碼.

nei5 soeng2 jiu3 me1 sik1?
What colour do you want?
有冇中碼呀？
jau5 mou5 zung1 maa5 aa3?
