  1. 1 Kangxi (also spelled Kang Hsi) -- a Qing (清) Dynasty emperor. His name is often used to refer to the dictionary published in 1716 under his rule; the Kangxi Dictionary (康熙字典) is considered one of the most complete Chinese character dictionaries ever compiled and indexes each character under one of 214 radicals (部首). This system of 214 Kangxi radicals has been widely adopted and is usually the standard in modern day Traditional Character dictionaries.
